Heavy snowfall caused chaos in traffic in the Russian capital Moscow on Monday evening.
The city saw nearly 900 kilometres of gridlock during the evening rush hour. Russia's far east has been facing extreme snowfall for several days now but, until yesterday, temperatures in the capital were much too high for snow. Temperatures as high as 12 degrees Celsius were registered, the highest December temperatures since records were first kept 130 years ago.
