Haiti charges US Baptists with abduction

Published on 4 February 2010 - 10:03pm
More about:

Haiti has charged 10 US Christians with child kidnapping and criminal association for allegedly attempting to smuggle 33 children out of the country.

The five men and five women, all members of an Idaho Baptist community, were arrested last week at the border with the Dominican Republic as they attempted to drive over the border.

The group says the children had either been abandoned by their parents or orphaned by the January earthquake and they were just trying to help. The missionaries claim they were attempting to take the children to the US in order to give them a better life. However, an investigation revealed that some of the children still had living parents.

The Haitian authorities say the Baptists did not have authorisation or the travel documents necessary to take the children out of Haiti. If convicted, the missionaries could be sentenced to long jail terms.

Serves those idiots right, who do they think they are? They come into a country and just grab children as if they had all the right in the world to grab kids and just take them out of the country without permission. Idiots!
