Guinea’s junta leader slightly injured

Published on 4 December 2009 - 8:27am
More about:

The leader of the junta in Guinea, Captain Moussa Dadi Camara has been slightly injured in an attack by one of his own soldiers.

A government spokesperson says the soldier who attacked Captain Camara has been arrested.

Eyewitnesses say they heard gunfire in Guinea’s capital Conakry. But it soon became quiet again.

Camara came to power a year ago in a bloodless coup d’état after the death of strongman Lansana Conté.

Initially he promised elections, but they have been constantly postponed.

At the end of September, human rights organisations reported more than 150 people killed and scores of women raped in a clamp down on demonstrations against Camara.
