Greenland longs for snow

Published on 2 February 2010 - 3:03pm
More about:

While much of Europe is battling wintry conditions, Greenland is having to cope with unusually mild weather that is bringing rain instead of snow.

Greenland radio is warning people not to travel by sled, as the lack of snow and the freezing rain is making conditions extremely treacherous.

On Spain's Canary Islands, heavy rain and thunderstorms are causing severe flooding. Schools all over the archipelago have had to close.

In the capital Santa Cruz on Tenerife, many streets are under water and 30,000 residents are without electricity. On La Palma, cars have been dragged into the sea by powerful torrents.
