Greece has announced that it will inoculate its entire population against swine flu. It will be the first country to take serious measures against the influenza A (H1N1) strain of the virus.
The authorities have ordered 24 million doses, since the country has more than 11 million inhabitants and two shots offer the best protection. More than 700 cases of the disease have been recorded in Greece so far.
The government fears it will not receive all of the 24 million doses before January, while the pandemic could hit the country in the fall. The Netherlands and Great Britain are also preparing mass vaccination drives.
