The Netherlands’ Mark Tuitert has won the country’s second gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He completed the 1500 metres speed skating race just half a second faster than the favourite, the United States’ Shani Davis. Norway’s Håvard Bøkko ended in third place. After he won, Tuitert said it had been the race of his life.
It was the first Dutch victory in the 1500 metres since Ard Schenk won gold at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo in Japan.
