The head of the former Ghanaian king Badu Bonsu II is now officially back in African hands.
Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen signed an agreement with Odoi-Anim, the Ghanaian charge d’affaires in the Netherlands, and tribal leader Etsin Kofi II on Thursday making the transfer official.
Dutch writer Arthur Japin discovered the head of the former king in 2005, while he was conducting research for a book. It was stored in preserving fluid in the Anatomical Museum of the Leiden University Medical Centre. It had been there since 1838, when the king was hanged by the Dutch authorities in the former Gold Coast for the murder of two Dutch envoys.
After his execution, his head was removed and brought back to the Netherlands.
