Germans have begun hoarding traditional light bulbs on a large scale.
On 1 September the first phase of a ban on old-fashioned light bulbs is due to go into effect. Shops will no longer sell traditional bulbs with frosted glass or clear bulbs rated at more than 100 watts.
The government is trying to get the German public to switch to modern energy-saving bulbs but these are not popular because they are more expensive, their light is regarded as "cold" and it is thought do not last as long as originally claimed.
It's not only private individuals that are hoarding the old bulbs. The Kunsthalle museum in Hamburg recently purchased 600 traditional light bulbs.
