Police in Germany have arrested a man suspected of stealing a quarter of a million euros in a raid on a Berlin poker tournament one week ago.
The robbery, which was seen live on television, involved four masked men. Last Saturday they burst into the Grand Hyatt hotel in central Berlin, wielding machetes and handguns. They escaped in a black Mercedes with more than 240,000 euros in cash. At the time, the head of the German police union described the thieves as "amateurs" and was confident they would soon be caught.
The poker tournament had drawn around 950 participants, including top figures from the world of poker, with 4.7 million euros in prize money. Kevin MacPhee eventually carried off the main prize of one million euro.
