A nuclear plant in the northwestern town of Lingen has been shut down in an emergency procedure following the malfunctioning of a transformer.
The RWE energy company that operates the plant says all security systems function properly. The environment ministry of the state of Lower Saxony says no radioactive material was released during the emergency, stressing that local residents are not at risk. An inquiry has been launched into the cause of the incident. It is not yet known when the reactor will be restarted.
