General Motors says its plan to sell the Hummer car brand to the Chinese company Tengzhong has been called off. According to the car manufacturer, this means the end for Hummer, which has been in dire financial straits for some time.
The reason for the cancellation of the sale has not been made known, but the Financial Times claims the Chinese government blocked the deal. The takeover of the fuel-hungry and high-emissions brand is thought to be against government plans to reduce air pollution.
Hummer is not the only car make GM no longer wants. Daughter company Saab was recently sold to Dutch car manufacturer Spyker.
