French customs impound record drugs haul

Published on 30 December 2009 - 7:22pm
More about:

French customs officers have impounded a refrigerated lorry from the Netherlands in which 249 kilos of drugs were hidden. It was ostensibly transporting frozen French fries to Great Britain via the Channel Tunnel.

Customs inspectors discovered 206 kilos of amphetamines and 43 kilos of cocaine packed in the vehicle. The amphetamine haul was twice as large as the total seized in the whole of 2008. The drugs are reported to have a street value of 4.4 million euros. The British driver has been arrested.
