A fourth Dutch patient has been diagnosed with Mexican flu, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) announced today.
The patient in question, a woman aged 25, contracted the H1N1 virus on a trip to New York from which she returned on 30 May. The woman changed flights in London. The British authorities have been notified and are working to track down the woman’s fellow passengers. The RIVM says it is not taking additional measures for passengers on the flight from London to Amsterdam, since the risk of infection on such a short flight is low. People in close contact to the victim are being pre-emptively treated.
This is the first time a Dutch person has contracted the H1N1 virus outside of Mexico. The RIVM said it expects further cases of Mexican flu as more people return from their holidays.
