Thousands of people have gathered in the Nepalese capital Katmandu to pay their final respects to former prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala who died on Saturday at the age of 85.
In 2006, he concluded a peace accord with Maoist rebels which ended ten years of civil war. Until his death, Mr Koirala continued to be involved in the peace process which has not yet been completed.
The former prime minister will be cremated at a Hindu temple in Katmandu. Hundreds of thousands of mourners are expected to attend the ceremony.
