In northern Kenya, a flood in the Uaso Nyiro river has caused widespread damage to a popular wildlife park.
Luxury lodges, bridges and an elephant research centre in the Samburu National Reserve were damaged. Around 40 tourists from various countries had to be evacuated. British soldiers, currently on exercise in the area, have gone to the aid of local rescue workers.
The flood was caused by heavy rainfall in a region that several months ago had suffered a severe drought.
