The United Nations says 159 people have been killed by flooding in West Africa since June. Most of the deaths, 103, occurred in Sierra Leone.
The rainy season has caused flooding in 16 West African countries this year and some 600,000 people have been directly affected by the floods. Houses, roads and crops have been destroyed and infectious diseases are on the rise.
Aid agencies say they are concerned that the destruction of the harvest will lead to food shortages in the coming months. The UN World Food Programme has launched food distribution operations in Burkina Faso and Niger.
