The extra security controls for travellers taking flights to the United States from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport have not, said an airport representative, led to any problems. The 25 flights that took off for the US on Sunday suffered only minor delays.
All passengers travelling to the US from Schiphol are now being frisked and their hand baggage subject to a detailed search. The increased security will last for an unspecified time.
The checks were implemented after a man attempted to ignite an explosive on a flight from Amsterdam to the US city of Detroit on Friday. He was overpowered by passengers and flight crew before he could succeed.
