Federer set for first French Open title

Published on 5 June 2009 - 8:24pm
More about:

Sunday's men's final at Roland Garros will see Roger Federer battle it out with Sweden's Robin Söderling.

The Swiss number two reached the Paris final after beating Argentina's Juan Martín del Potro 3-6, 7-6, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Söderling also needed five sets to defeat Chili's Fernando González: 6-3, 7-5, 5-7, 7-4, 6-4.

The French Open is the only major title Federer has not yet won. Victory on Sunday would put him level with Pete Sampras' record of 14 Grand Slam titles.
