In Sunday’s Premiere League games, FC Twente took the top spot from Eindhoven's PSV. The Enschede team beat RKC Waalwijk 1-0, allowing them to cash in following PSV’s defeat on Saturday evening by NAC Breda.
With another eight matches to go, FC Twente now has two points more than PSV. In third place, Ajax managed to close the gap with PSV to four points after beating Sparta 3-0. In other Sunday matches, Feyenoord beat Roda JC in Kerkrade 4-2, FC Groningen beat VVV Venlo at home 1-0, and FC Utrecht won at home to NEC Nijmegen by the same score.
On Saturday, Eindhoven’s PSV suffered its first Premier League defeat this season with a 2-1 loss to NAC Breda. Orlando Engelaar scored for PSV, only to see NAC’s Donny Gorter and Robbert Schilder go on to net the two winning goals.
In Heerenveen, Henk Timmer’s first time in goal for sc Heerenveen was marked by a 4-1 home victory against Alkmaar’s AZ. Until 2006, Timmer was the goalie for AZ. He then played until last year for Rotterdam’s Feyenoord. Elsewhere, Heracles Almelo won a home game 3-2 against candidate for relegation Willem II, from Tilburg. Ado Den Haag drew 1-1 against Arnhem Vitesse.
