FC Twente has won 1-0 at home in a UEFA Europa League match against Werder Bremen. The winning goal came in the 39th minute, scored by midfielder Theo Janssen. Next week the two teams will play a return game in Bremen.

Amsterdam's Ajax lost at home to Italy's Juventus 1-2. Ajax began well with a goal by Miralem Sulejmani. In spite of their solid performance, Ajax conceded two goals by the Brazilian striker Amauri. Next week is the return game in Turin.

Police in Amsterdam have arrested eight supporters from both sides following rioting in the capital. More than 500 Italian supporters have been bussed out of the city with orders not to return to the city centre. If they do they will face a fine or prison sentence.
