Experts work to identify air crash victims

Published on 21 June 2009 - 11:44am
More about:

In Brazil, forensic experts will today start attempting to identify the bodies recovered from the Atlantic Ocean after an Air France plane crashed on 1 June.  So far, 50 bodies have been recovered.

Relatives of the 228 people on board have given DNA samples to aid the process. Investigators will also use jewellery as well as other identifying marks such as tattoos and scars to determine identity.

Three weeks after the plane plunged into the Atlantic Ocean, the cause of the disaster is still not known. Search and rescue teams have been unable to recover the aircraft's black boxes although they have recovered hundreds of pieces of the Air France jet.
