With voting now finished in Indonesia’s presidential elections, television station exit polls are predicting a resounding victory for incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The polls predict that the president has won between fifty and sixty percent of the votes. His two opponents, current Vice President Yusuf Kalla and former president Megawati Sukarnoputri, are thought to have won 15 percent and 25 percent respectively. If the figures turn out to be true, no second round of voting will be necessary.
Despite the early claims, President Yudhoyono has not claimed victory because, he said, there has been no definite result. Neither of his opponents has reacted to the predictions.
So far as is known, the elections passed off peacefully throughout the country.
