The European Commission is launching a campaign to make passengers more aware of their rights. The launch is timed to coincide with the Christmas holidays, a time when many people travel home or head off on holiday.
Air and international rail passengers recently gained more rights to compensation when confronted with long delays and loss of luggage. Passengers on trains which cross national borders are now automatically entitled to compensation when confronted with a delay of one hour or more and payment of up to 1300 euros if their luggage is damaged. Air passengers have been given similar rights if their flight is delayed by three hours or more.
EU Transport Commissioner Antonio Tajani has drawn up a Top 12 of tips for travellers.
