Elections for the European parliament are being held in 19 member states today, including Germany, France, Italy and Spain.
A total of 375 million EU citizens are eligible to cast their votes for 736 seats. In many countries, the EU elections are combined with referendums or local elections. Some German voters are also casting their ballots for a new local council, and the Luxembourg electorate are also electing a national parliament. The Danes are voting on new rules for the succession to the throne, which, if approved, would give women equal rights to ascend the throne.
