In Australia, environmental activists blocked a train line to Newcastle for a number of hours. The protest ended when police arrested 23 activists.
Newcastle, north of Sydney, is an important transhipment port for coal.
The activists partly blame the failure of the UN Copenhagen Climate Summit on their government and have blocked the line in protest.
Australia is an important exporter of coal and the country’s electricity supply is dependent on the fossil fuel.
