Police in the United States state of Virginia say an unidentified gunman has shot dead eight people near the central town of Appomattox.
Police say seven were found at one home, while an eighth victim was found by the side of the road and died on the way to hospital. Hundreds of officers have reportedly surrounded the gunman in woodland just outside Appomattox. Nothing is known about the suspect's motives for the shooting spree.
