Egyptian police have arrested 13 members of the Muslim Brotherhood, including the deputy leader of the major opposition group.
The arrests are seen as an attempt to frustrate the group's preparations for parliamentary elections later this year. The Muslim Brotherhood is officially banned, but fields candidates as independents. The group won one fifth of the seats in parliament in Egypt's 2005 elections with such candidates.
