Education Minister Ronald Plasterk wants to close down the European University for Professional Education, a school of higher vocational education in The Hague.
An investigation by the schools inspectorate showed a failing management and financial chaos. The inspectorate says that an official warning issued after an inspection four years ago failed to produce lasting results. In October, the director and two of his closest associates were arrested on charges of people trafficking, people smuggling and fraud.
Most of the school's students are recruited from Asia. They allegedly receive almost no education and their housing facilities are inadequate. As required by law, the minister first has given the school three months to improve the situation, but he says he does not believe it will.
