Dutch tourists presumed dead in Haiti

Published on 19 January 2010 - 10:15pm
More about:

The foreign ministry believes seven of the 11 Dutch citizens missing in Haiti are dead. Their  probable remains were buried in a temporary grave on Monday.

Afterwards, a remembrance ceremony was held outside the hotel where the bodies were recovered from the wreckage. The Dutch honorary consul and Dutch marines who have been deployed to the disaster area were present.

An official announcement of the deaths will only come after DNA research. Two of the other four missing Dutch citizens are thought to have been killed in another hotel. It is not known where the last two missing persons were when the earthquake struck.
