Dutch websites are trading in endangered species, says animal welfare organisation International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).
IFAW searched the web for six weeks and found nine Dutch websites that traded in endangered species or products made from endangered species. The websites contained more than 500 items.
Trading in endangered species is illegal in the Netherlands. IFAW has therefore asked the Dutch Minister of Nature, Gerda Verburg, to enforce the law more effectively.
IFAW also believes that auction sites should act more responsibly. They single out eBay as a positive example, eBay banned ivory trade from their website two years ago.
