More about:

This week on RNW's Dutch Music Monday Top 10 (week beginning 5 December 2011): A protest song by one of The Netherlands’ most renowned orchestras, a fun song by a well known comedy duo and a straightforward pop song from a former Voice of Holland finalist – that sums up the trio of newcomers to our weekly RNW Music Monday chart this week!

3 Wereldwijd orkest – Metropole Orchestra & Friends
The huge budget cuts that the Dutch cabinet has imposed also mean less funding for several Dutch orchestras. The Metropole Orchestra is one of them – despite being hugely successful in their musical approach, which means they can handle almost any musical genre from classical to jazz and pop. To protest the cuts, the two-time Grammy Award winning Metropole Orchestra has recorded a protest song, “Wereldwijd orkest” (“Worldwide orchestra”), with the help of many of its musical friends from the Dutch pop scene. Great song, great initiative – but will it help?

6 Kabalis – Jurk
Jurk (“Dress”) is a comedy duo of Dennis van de Ven and Jeroen van Koningsbrugge. They have found fame with their comedy sketch shows on TV, but they actually started out as a band. Their new single is “Kabalis” , a non existing word which is a portmanteau of the words kabaal and is, as in: Als er kabaal is – “When there’s a lot of noise”.

8 Hey – Leonie Meijer
Leonie Meijer was one of last year’s finalists in the debut season of The Voice of Holland. She didn’t win, but she went on to become a fairly successful artist in her own right. Hey is from her debut album which will be released shortly.
