This week’s Dutch Music Monday Top 10 (week beginning 21 May 2012):
The country’s ten most popular songs of the week include two new entries this week, one by established pop band Racoon, with their third hit single of the year so far, and one by singer Edsilia Rombley, who foreign audiences may remember from the 1998 and 2007 Eurovision Song Contests in which she represented the Netherlands.

The rest of the chart is occupied by the usual names: Gers Pardoel remains at number one with Bagagedrager, while Van Velzen’s The rush of life spends its 9th week on our chart without ever getting higher than number five.
Two songs fell off the chart this week: Lose it by Waylon (after 7 weeks) and Kom maar op by Jeroen van der Boom (2 weeks)

New entries
9. Zeg me dat het niet zo is – Edsilia Rombley
It’s rather appropriate that Edsilia Rombley enters our Top Ten during Eurovision week, as she represented the Netherlands at the competition twice, in 2007 and 1998. Her first appearance there remains the most successful Dutch entry since 1975, as Hemel en Aarde (Heaven and Earth) managed to finish fourth in that contest. Fourteen years on, she’s left Eurovision behind and is still trying to build a solid career in Dutch music. Last week, she performed Zeg me dat het niet zo is (Say it ain’t so) by fellow Dutch singer Frank Boeijen on a popular TV show and her version immediately shot up the iTunes download chart.
7. Liverpool rain – Racoon
Racoon’s latest album Liverpool rain is one year old now but it still produces major hit singles. After No mercy and Please don’t give up the fight (both big hits on our Music Monday chart), the title track off the album has now been issued as a single. The song reflects the feeling of the band as they were visiting Liverpool during the recording sessions of their album, which took place in the UK. Not a very pleasant experience, judging from the lyrics of Liverpool rain...
