The 14th edition of Gay Pride in Amsterdam drew to a close on Sunday evening with a final celebration staged at the city hall and opera house.
At six o’clock visitors held a minute’s silence for the victims of the shooting at a Tel Aviv gay club, where on Saturday evening a man dressed in black opened fire, killing two people and injuring at least thirteen others.
The weeklong Gay Pride celebrations in Amsterdam featured exhibitions, debates and film screenings as well as exuberant partying. The traditional climax was Saturday’s parade of more than 80 boats along Amsterdam’s canals. Participants ranged from celebrities and scantily clad dancers to politicians and soldiers in uniform. A record 560,000 spectators lined the canals to watch the parade.
