Dutch daily's state secrets prosecution dropped

Published on 26 January 2010 - 9:01pm
More about:

The public prosecutor's office has decided to drop the case against a journalist from the mass-circulation Dutch daily, De Telegraaf, for publishing state secrets.

Two former Dutch intelligence service (AIVD) employees have been jailed for leaking sensitive information to the journalist two times last year. She published it in De Telegraaf.

The authorities have decided against prosecuting the journalist because some of the evidence against her was obtained illegally. It was contained in telephone conversations between her and the intelligence workers which were tapped by the AIVD.
