Complaints about the cost of policing the Dutch FA Cup Final between Amsterdam Ajax and arch-rivals Feyenoord of Rotterdam has led to a decision to divide the final into two games.
The final was to have been played at the Feyenoord ground in Rotterdam on 25 April and it was feared there would be serious trouble between the rival fans. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has now decided that the first of two cup final games will be played in Amsterdam on the same date. The second game will take place in Rotterdam on 6 May.
Caretaker interior minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin is reported to have pointed out to both the KNVB and Rotterdam city council that the projected policing costs of the final were too high in the context of imminent government cuts.
