Dutch children not worried about the flu

Published on 8 November 2009 - 4:46pm
More about:

A survey shows 82 percent of Dutch children are not particularly worried about getting swine flu. If the decision were left to the youngsters themselves, 62 percent would not bother to get vaccinated. A minority admitted being scared of the injection itself.

A children's programme produced by Dutch public service television asked youngsters from 9 to 14 about the illness (known as Mexican flu in the Netherlands).

Health Minister Ab Klink will decide on Monday whether the government will advise that children should be inoculated against the A(H1N1) virus which causes swine flu. So far, not many people have died from the flu, but there are relatively more fatalities among children than is the case with ordinary flu.
