Dutch and Austrians clash in ski resort

Published on 9 February 2010 - 2:39pm
More about:

Last weekend a confrontation occurred between a group of twelve Dutchmen and seven Austrians of Turkish descent in the Austrian ski resort Mayrhofen. Four people were injured during the fight and one Dutchman required medical attention afterwards.

The fight ignited early Sunday morning in a nightclub and escalated when the club’s security guards removed both groups from the premises.

According to eyewitnesses the Austrians were especially violent in their attacks, using knuckle-dusters, knives, sticks and broken beer bottles. The Austrians’ assault did not cease until the Dutchmen had fled to their hotel.

The Mayrhofen police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter. They suspect that alcohol might be one of the contributing factors.
