Police in Dubai have arrested two Palestinians they suspect of involvement in the murder of a commander of Hamas. Mahmoud al-Mabhuh was killed in a luxury hotel room in Dubai in January. He was thought to have been in the city to buy weapons for the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamist group.
Police say the two Palestinians used false European passports to escape to Jordan after the murder. They were extradited to Dubai a few days ago. One of them is thought to have had contact with the team of 11 Europeans suspected of carrying out the murder. The Dubai police say the 11 hold six United Kingdom passports, three Irish passports, and one French and one German passport.
Following the death of Mr Al-Mabhuh, Hamas admitted he had been involved in the kidnap and death of two Israeli soldiers in 1989. Hamas has accused Israel of his murder.
