DSB Beheer, the mother company of Dick Scheringa's bank, has been officially declared bankrupt. The DSB mother company owns a number of insurance and internet companies, as well as Alkmaar's AZ football stadium. The seizure will not affect AZ, as the club rents the stadium irrespective of its owner.
Alongside the 2,000 job losses from DSB bank, some 400 people will lose their jobs from the 30 or so companies owned by DSB Beheer. The companies and their assets will be sold to pay off some of the debts of DSB Bank.
The Scheringa Museum in the village of Spanbroek has also gone into receivership. The art collection itself has been taken possession by ABN Amro bank as security against a 32-million euro loan for the construction of a lavish new museum in the nearby village of Opmeer.
The collection assembled by Dick Scheringa and his wife Baukje has an estimated value of 40 million euros. An ABN Amro spokesperson said the art seizure could have been avoided if Mr Scheringa had agreed to a special construction which would involve renting the 400 works of art to third parties, so that the tax office could not lay claim to them.
