Dozens killed in attacks in Pakistan

Published on 7 December 2009 - 11:04pm
More about:

Bomb attacks in two of Pakistan's main cities killed at least 46 people and injured more than 100 today.

A double bomb attack in a busy market in Lahore, capital of Punjab province, killed at least 36 people and a suicide bomber killed 10 people at a court building in Peshawar. The attacks have been blamed on Islamist militants.

Pakistan has been battling an increasing Taliban insurgency and more than 2,600 people have been killed in attacks over the last 2-and-a-half years. The number of attacks increased after the Pakistan military launched a major offensive against insurgents across the north-west tribal region bordering Afghanistan earlier this year.
