Diesel oil contaminates Yellow river

Published on 4 January 2010 - 12:30pm
More about:

Diesel oil which has leaked into the Wei river has reached the Yellow river. The river is a source of drinking water for millions of Chinese.

In spite of all out efforts to stop the leak, a Chinese press agency reports around 150,000 litres of diesel gushed into the Wei river after a construction accident damaged a pipeline in Shaanxi province.

Local governments are refusing to say how much oil has been leaked. The public has been warned not to use the water.
