Death sentence sought for corruption fighter

Published on 19 January 2010 - 10:59am
More about:

The public prosecutor in Indonesia has demanded the death sentence for former Indonesian corruption fighter Antasari Azhar. Mr Azhar is on trial for the murder of businessman Nasrudin Zulkarnaen last March.

He is said to have been blackmailed by Mr Zulkarnaen following an affair with a 22-year old woman, and is suspected of hiring third parties to get rid of him.

Mr Azhar, 56, was one of the most important members of staff of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in his fight against corruption in Indonesia.
