Danish police have arrested some 200 climate demonstrators in Freetown Christiania, the self-proclaimed autonomous neighbourhood for hippies and artists in Copenhagen.
Police faced demonstrators' petrol bombs as they moved in against climate activists who had set alight barricades. The authorities blocked all the exits from Christiania and then fired tear gas and water canons. Those arrested were quickly placed into busses and taken to the special detention facility outside Copenhagen set up by police for the summit.
Earlier on Monday, police made 17 arrests at a rally attended by more than 1,000 activists demanding the opening of borders to climate refugees. Since Saturday, about 1500 climate summit protesters have been arrested.
