The board of the St Elisabeth Hospital in Curaçao has called on the authorities to build a new hospital.
The hospital's director, Javier Hernández, says the building is too old to provide adequate care and cannot be modernised. He also warns of a lack of medical equipment. According to the director, the hospital is technically bankrupt because some 15 million euros in arrears are uncollectible. The hospital provides care to anyone who needs it, including illegal immigrants and those lacking medical insurance.
