Court suspends Ukrainian election result

Published on 17 February 2010 - 4:00pm
More about:

A court in Ukraine has suspended the result of the country's presidential election, after agreeing to consider a challenge by Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Ms Tymoshenko is demanding a recount, alleging widespread polling fraud. She lost to opposition leader Viktor Yanukovich by a margin of 3.5 percent.

The Supreme Court is to reach a decision by Thursday, when parliament is due to inaugurate the new president.
