More controversy over Prince's holiday home

Published on 29 October 2009 - 10:56pm
More about:

Two Dutch parliamentary parties have requested an urgent debate over the Crown Prince's holiday home in Mozambique.

The calls from the Democrats D66 and the Green Left come in response to reports in daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad concerning the foundation which is representing Prince Willem-Alexander's interests in the project.

The foundation was set up to so that the prince and his wife Máxima would not be directly involved with the parties which are constructing the exclusive holiday homes.

The paper reports that the chairperson of the foundation is one of the investors in the project, which has raised doubts about the foundation's ability to act independently.

The two parties say the foundation appears to be a sham to ward off criticism of the Prince.

The holiday home has been the subject of controversy before because of rumours of corruption and intimidation.
