Peru's Prime Minister Yehude Simon has promised to make concessions to the protests of indigenous people of the Peruvian Amazon.
While visiting indigenous leaders in the rainforest, Simon said the government is willing to cancel a few of its contentious laws.
Protestors have been demonstrating for weeks against a number of laws which would make it possible for foreign business to develop large areas of the Peruvian rainforest. A proposal for the retraction of the laws is being presented to parliament today.
Prime Minister Simon also announced that the state of emergency in the town of Bagua is being lifted. Thirty-four people were killed there this month during violent protests.
