Colombia police investigate Van der Sloot over missing girls

Published on : 9 June 2010 - 11:01am | By RNW News Desk (Photo: ANP)
More about:

Police in Colombia are investigating whether Dutch national Johan van der Sloot was involved in the disappearance of two girls in Bogotá. Van der Sloot, also the chief suspect in the murder case of Peruvian woman Stephany Flores, was reportedly seen in various casinos in the Colombian capital in the company of young girls.

The sensationalist newspaper El Espacio has published an article on the Dutchman, linking his visits to Bogotá casinos to attend poker games between 6 and 14 May 2010, to the young women’s disappearance. The two girls went missing in the same period and - according to eye-witnesses - were spotted in Van der Sloot’s company. The 22-year-old Dutchman stayed at two or more hotels, the newspaper reports.

Crosses the border unnoticed
On 14 May, Van der Sloot left for Peru. According to a Colombian police spokesman, “there is no official documentation” of Johan van der Sloot crossing the Colombian border into Peru. The spokesman admits in Dutch newspaper, the AD, that there are several points along the border where it’s possible to cross over without being checked.

The police spokesman has confirmed that Bogotá is investigating the disappearance of the two girls, but stresses that there is as yet unsubstantiated evidence to implicate Johan van der Sloot, who is still the main suspect in the case of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

Notoriety
Van der Sloot gained international notoriety because of his connection with the disappearance of US teenager Natalee Holloway on the island of Aruba in 2005. Ms Holloway's body has never been found and the case remains unsolved. Although Van der Sloot is the chief suspect, no charges have been brought against him due to lack of evidence.

Natalee's father, Dave Holloway, has said he hopes the confession over the Stephany Flores murder will lead to more revelations in Natalee's case. The father of the US teenager said a long prison term in a Peruvian jail would at least be a just punishment for Van der Sloot. The Public Prosecutor in Aruba has offered to assist Peru in the Flores investigation.

Stephany Flores
Once in Peru, Van der Sloot checked into a hotel in the capital, Lima. The Dutchman has since confessed to the murder of the 21-year-old Peruvian woman on 30 May. Apparently, Van der Sloot reacted furiously when Ms Flores used his laptop without his permission and discovered his link to the disappearance of US teenager Natalee Holloway.

If found guilty of murder, Van der Sloot faces a 35-year jail sentence in Peru. If the sentence is reduced to manslaughter, he could get a 20-year jail term. Peruvian Minister of Social Development and Women’s Affairs, Nidia Vílchez Yucra, is calling for the maximum sentence.

Vanderslop will never tell where Natalie is. He only knows how to lie, and I think he has killed others as well. I hope he gets what he has coming very soon, he is a waste of space and there's no need to feed and house something like him.

Van der Sloot has been cleared of any involvement with the disappearance of theses girls.

How can you possibly think this guy is innocent? Have you read any material? Have you heard the hidden Video in the car by a reporter?

Did you post your info on conjugalharmony.com yet Mary? There are other eligible bachelor murders and rapists out there for you in case Urine isn't available.

Anonymous 18 June 2010 - 1:22pm

Yes Mary we get it, you think that Urine has been framed. Dead girls just follow him around, and girls just happen to come up missing wherever Urine goes. He is misunderstood. Only you understand him Mary. We get it.

Has any one seen the result of an ameriKKKan effort to try to explain the ameriKKKan justice system?
Think about how well it works with OJ FOOTBALL HERO and ROBERT BLAKE MOVIE HERO!
It was published in comic book form for easy teaching, and written/printed in ameriKKKan standard English which ensures that any one using real English will have to struggle with the meanings of some words, like "PEASANT" and "COCK".
Of course ameriKKKan justice worked just like ameriKKKans wanted it to when lootenant Calley and his STORM TROOPER heroes killed 200++ un-armed Vietnamese WOMEN AND CHILDREN>
He got a slap on the wrist, retired from the STORM TROOPERS with a life time pension and 2 dozen medals for himself and hundreds for his STORM TROOPERS!

Matthew Shepard tortured to death and left tangled up in a barbed wire fence! How ameriKKKan is that?
Some Texas black man set upon had his feet tied together and dragged behind the ameriKKKan heroe's Texas cadillac until he was quite dead! How ameriKKKan is that?

Comic book edition $1.00 at any news stand in ameriKKKa!

Marie, you full collar KKK?

epminks 15 June 2010 - 3:15am / US

Are you retarded or what? Both men in the Matthew Shepard case received 2 life sentences for what they did to him. A life sentence in the US is 33 years and they have to do 67 years. What more do you want? We the taxpayers are paying for their housing. Matthew Shepards parents did not want either criminals to receive the death penalty which is what they would have received. Like I said before, learn to read then write before you spew any more hate mail. The black man in Texas. Now I really remember that being a black woman. That crime is no worse than the others. someone did take a life, right???

is that you hank? 16 June 2010 - 7:15am

epminks - our incredibly stupid friend on here spewing the hate mail / anti - US rhetoric apparently has some kind of learning disability. Once you take that into account, reading his posts can be alot less irritating & offensive and almost amusing, even though the subject matter is anything but funny. Its almost amusing that someone could be so stupid. Almost. But not quite...

And the crime did take place in ameriKKKa! Didn't it? Not in any other country, right!
HMMMMM! Retarded! Are you trying to gather like minded people around you?

epminks 15 June 2010 - 2:52am / US

Joran should request concurrent sentences for both murders. I am almost sure the U.S. would grant it if he would tell the whereabouts of Natalie Holloway.

===================================================================

You are ALMOST SURE! How ameriKKKan! Giving advice where non is requested and giving advice that is farcical! Where is George Bush when we need a laugh??

epminks 14 June 2010 - 7:36pm / US

First of all I never said Robert Blake was innocent. I basically said his chances of getting away with another crime like Joran is zero. Why do you persist in calling Stephany a peasant girl when you have already been told that is a derrogatory remark? You are just like your son, excuse me Joran. You have no respect for others and obviously believe others are beneath you. You and your son obviously have an inferiority complex. The apple does not fall too far from the tree, does it? Stephany was a person just like your son, excuse me friend Joran. I am black and guess what? I have always felt O.J. was found not guilty because of the Rodney King trial. I believe black people, not me, wanted to send a message to our legal system that racism would no longer be tolerated in California. Most people including myself lost respect for him when he divorced his wife. The only reason you want to bring race into the conversation is because whenever cornered you try to reflect the blame, just like Joran. How can you leave your other sons to fend for theirselves while you gallavant to Peru to see Joran? If you are going to try and save anyone, it should be his brothers who are not responsible for Jorans actions. I can only imagine what they must be going through especially with a mother like you.

===================================================================

Hey out there YOU NON-AMERICAN YOU! DO AS YOU ARE TOLD! If some ameriKKKan tells you that peasant is a derogatory *remark* you better listen! They know it all!
I guess if GOMER with his limited ability to use English as used by the civilized world spouts ORDERS some one should listen. Remember GOMER has to use ameriKKKan English, and is too ignorant to realize that the rest of the world uses PROPER ENGLISH where in PEASANT is NOT a derogatory word
(or is that derogatory remark?).

is that you hank? 16 June 2010 - 6:53am / USA

If you call someone a peasant in England, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, any of the large industrialised countries who call English their first language, it would be taken as an intentionally derogatory comment. The rest of the civilised world that chooses to use the wonderful English language, like you, needs to recognize that. The fact that you choose to keep using it to describe an INNOCENT MURDER VICTIM that simply doesn't qualify to be called such just shows your pathetic callous arrogance.

PEASANT in ameriKKKan is derogatary!
What do you know about the free English speaking world?
Are you suggesting that ameriKKKan English is the same as civilized world English?
Arrogant is what that is, not derogatary.

Romans 10:9!

a Dutch woman 14 June 2010 - 7:25pm / Aruba

I am a Dutch woman born in Aruba and all there's to be said Joran got away with Murder in Aruba because his dad at that time a Judge & his godfather chief police coached him! Like inthe US no body no crime but one thing is for sure he will be killed as soon as he gets into that Peruvian prison,..that is what they are chanting outside and inside those prison walls as he deserves! But in the meanwhile he, his dad and his godfather gave Aruba a bad name why because the Dutch Law was manipulated by 2 Dutch men born in Holland with the Dutch Justice system backing them up!!! I will say this on behalf of all Arubians around the world...we feel happy that he's finally in custody and we hope that we'll ever get to know what he did to Natalie's bidy whom i participated to search for together with thousand of others, she deserves a proper burial and her family deserves to see justice prevail over Joran in a Peruvian Jail which really means the inmates will kill him and that will be his human right and witj short comings 2 life for the price of 1!!!! CAN'T DO THE TIME>>DON'T DO THE CRIME

Anonymous 17 June 2010 - 7:18pm / usa

I coudln't agree with you more. I don't think for once I thought of Aruba the same way I feel about Mr. Scum. We all have them in every country unfortunately, but we should all apply the same force and no merci to them when caught and we should get rid of them. Turn them to ashes ! Done ! Who's next ?? I too can't wait for Peruvians to take justice in their own hands!

epminks 14 June 2010 - 7:45pm / US

I am sorry for any negative comments made against the Arubans and the Dutch people. Please believe me when I say the majority of Americans do not hold the Arubans or the Dutch responsible for what happened. Only Joran is responsible for the chain of events that unfolded.
