The Parisian Public Prosecution has begun an investigation into corruption against former French President Jacques Chirac.
The investigation is into the appointment of seven political allies to non-existent jobs.
The fraud allegedly took place in the 1970s when Jacques Chirac was mayor of Paris.
Mr Chirac already faces charges for paying people for 21 non-existent jobs during his mayoralty.
The cases were put on hold during his presidency as he enjoyed immunity against prosecution.
