China wants stable US dollar

Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao wants the United States to do everything necessary to maintain the stability of the the dollar.

The prime minister made his remarks after the annual session of China's National People's Congress. A strong dollar is important to China, which holds more than 800 billion dollars in US government bonds.

Mr Wen also discussed the 2010 budget, which was recently approved by the Congress. This year, China will increase spending in an attempt to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor, make large investments in education and job creation and increase defence spending by 7.5 percent, the lowest figure in the past 20 years.
